Obtaining[]

Farming[]

Eggs can be obtained by farming chicken in pens, wyrm pens, or coral pens. A well fed chicken will not produce more eggs than a starving chicken, so there is no need to feed it before putting it in the pen. Here are some stats about getting eggs by farming chickens:

Animal Farmed Amount of Eggs Produced Time to Produce Eggs Eggs Per Minute (on average)
Chicken 3-6 80s 3.275

Additionally, Trees have a 4.76% (1 in 21) chance to drop 1 egg upon being cut down.

Chicken Familiar[]

When a chicken is equipped as a Familiar, it will lay an egg that can be picked up by the player every 10 seconds. This process costs it 50 feed (out of a chicken's 800), meaning a fully fed chicken can lay 16 eggs before running out of feed.

This can be helpful right when buying a market since you will probably be trying to get 8 eggs to max your speed using Speed Potions . A chicken only costs 20 gold more than 8 eggs and if you were to sell the remaining 8 eggs you will get from the chicken after getting the speed potions you will have paid less than the 80 gold required for directly buying those eggs.

Do note that since a chicken will only lay an egg every 10 seconds it will take 2 minutes and 40 seconds for it to lay all 16 eggs (that is if you don't plan on feeding it because then it will give more eggs and take longer).

Enemy Drops[]

Cockatrices drop 1 egg when killed, but do not provide eggs passively like a chicken does when equipped as a familiar.

Dungeons[]

Near the bottom of the stone layer in Starting Island, at depth 92, you can find the Fire Cave. This cave contains one floor of Cockatrice and one floor of Fire Boars , but we will focus on the Cockatrice floor (the bottom floor) for now. this floor contains more than 8 cockatrice, that might be a bit of a challenging encounter with starting island gear but if you are able to kill at least 8 of them you can have access to max speed from speed potions (see the alchemy segment for more info) before even unlocking the starting island markets.

This strategy is mostly relevant for when you refuse to help the Trader , since in that case you will be required to get 10 steel bars for the dockhouse before unlocking markets and so you will go mining in the stone more than once without the effects of speed potions.

Usage[]

Cooking[]

Eggs are a very important ingredient for cooking, especially at the later stages and can be used to make very good food for stamina and health.

Alchemy[]

For 2 eggs and 1 dragonblood, you can make a speed potion in the Laboratory. This potion allows you to walk much faster permanently, and this effect stacks up to 4 times.

It is immediately available when unlocking the laboratory by completing the Alchemist's "Magic Materials" Quest, therefore it is recommended to get 4 of these potions before leaving Starting Island regardless of if you choose science path, magic path or hybrid path.

Speed Potions are one of the only 2 increases to your walking speed outside of a vehicle, and the only permanent one. It is also very important to remember just how much faster you walk with speed potions compared to without, and this boost is very useful throughout the entire game.

There are lots of strategies on getting speed potions as early as possible but the simplest one is just purchasing 8 eggs from the Starting Island Food Merchant and killing 4 wyrms for dragonblood .

museum[]

One of the bundles in the Farming Section of the Museum requires 250 eggs .
