The Builder is the first survivor the player encounters, near the very beginning of the game.

Story[]

Once the player builds (or repairs) a Hut, the player hears the Builder from the outside, begging to be let inside the Hut to take shelter from the storm. The player is then given two options: either to trust the Builder and let him in or to keep him outside.

If the player chooses to let the Builder in, the next day the Builder will provide the player with a Stone Axe and offer a series of quests on the Starting Island.

If the player chooses to stay alone in the Hut, the Builder will not survive the night. The next day, his rotten corpse will be found outside; the player can then loot the Builder's corpse and find the Stone Axe.

Behavior[]

If you decide to save the Builder, the Builder will occasionally walk to nearby trees and bushes to harvest them. The bushes and trees will not actually be harvested, but the Builder will walk back to the storehouse to add some wood or berries as if he did. He will stop working and go to the hut during the night. If there is no storehouse on the island, the Builder will not do anything. Also the Builder will speed up building using his hammer, you can also do this if you have a hammer.

Quests[]

Name Requirements Rewards
Build Storehouse 8 wood, 4 berries Storehouse
Build Kitchen 10 wood, 10 coal Kitchen
Upgrade Kitchen 5 wood, 5 steel bars Upgraded Kitchen

Notes[]

  • If you choose not to save the Builder, you will not have the benefit of him periodically adding Wood to the Storehouse, and you will not be able to build a Kitchen. You will have to buy blueprints for the kitchen on Sunset Haven. He will give you a Stone Axe, however, so there is no benefit to leaving him outside.
